How To Disguise Imperfections Using Corrective Make-up
Although everyone is beautiful in their own way we all have our little niggling imperfections we'd change given the chance. Corrective make-up is an incredible tool when it comes to boosting your confidence and disguising minor and occasionally, major undesirable faults and features.
Today I will be showing how the cleaver use of make-up can improve the quality and condition of those imperfect flaws.
Moles and Freckles
If you'd rather not treat a mole on your face as a striking feature you can use a waterproof definer to transform it into a beauty spot. This can also be done with large freckles and is achieved by simply shading the area with a black pencil.
Attempting to disguise freckles with foundation can look chalky so why not treat them as part of a fresh-faced look. They are a sign of beauty after all. Alternatively both freckles and liver spots can be treated with a fade out cream. Look for products which contain hydroquinone, this ingredient also fades acne scars, dark circles and stretch marks.
*Tip: Remember to check moles regularly. If there is any change in colour, appearance or texture seek expert advice from your doctor. It is also advised not to pluck hairs from moles. Instead opt for using nail scissors to trim them.
Double Chin
Using face powder one shade darker than your regular product to softly shade the chin area will create the illusion that it is receding and therefore, make it appear less obvious. Highlighter can then be dabbed on the tip of the chin to brighten it. Always ensure you blend thoroughly for a natural-looking finish.
Instant Nose Job
If your self conscious of a big nose use a strong lip colour or choose to make your eyes the focal point of your face. Both options will work by drawing attention away from this common imperfection.
A light taupe shade of matte eyeshadow can also be used to soften and streamline the bridge of the nose by working down either side of the bridge and up towards the eyebrows. To take a hard edge off a nose, apply a rosy beige cheek or eye colour on the underside and between nostrils prior to shading the tip. This will also help a long nose appear slightly shorter.
Temporary Hair Loss
Although this can't be treated with the use of corrective make-up there is a solution.
It is normal for us to lose an average of 100 hairs a day however temporary hair loss can occur after pregnancy, through high levels of stress and, as a result of medication and illness.
Unless you are pregnant the scalp can be treated as follows:
Blend two drops of basil essential oil with the equivalent of rosemary oil. Adding 10ml of avocado oil, place in a glass bottle and heat in a bowl of near-boiling water. Gently massage the solution into your scalp and leave for 30 minutes before shampooing. The basil and rosemary oils will work by kick-starting the dormant hair follicles and promote hair growth.
Traction hair loss (traction alopecia) can be caused by regularly braiding and weaving hair too tightly when hair follicles are disrupted causing scar tissue to form. Some types of hair loss are unavoidable however traction alopecia is entirely preventable.
Remember no matter how big a flaw may seem to you imperfections are beautiful.
