Essential Waxing Aftercare

Essential waxing aftercare
Dark or excessive hair growth on the face and body is generally considered unacceptable and unattractive.
Waxing is a popular and affordable method of semi permanent hair removal which clears small or, large areas of undesirable hair quickly and efficiently for up to eight weeks by the epilation of hair from the root.
Waxing aftercare is essential in preventing unsightly ingrown hairs (more likely to occur when removing areas of thick hair) skin irritation, scaring and bacterial infections. I would advise taking the following precautions for at least 24 hours after wax epilation and, would recommend continuing to do so until skin ceases to feel sensitive.

No hot showers or profuse sweating and exercise.
Pores are a lot more vulnerable to irritation and infection by bacteria when open. Luke warm showers and baths should be taken for 24 hours after epilation and strenuous physical activity avoided to prevent skin infection.

A soothing after-wax solution or gel should be applied.
To ensure skin is kept soft and minimize any redness or irritation a soothing after-wax solution or gel should be applied regularly.
DO NOT use exfoliating products i.e. AHAs, scrubs or loofahs for at least 24 hours after a waxing treatment. These will only irritate the skin and cause more pain.

Refrain from applying perfumed products.
Avoid the application of deodorant, anti-perspirant and perfumed products to the area. This will reduce the risk of irritation and prevent toxins from these particular products entering the body through open pores.

Avoid the use of make-up and self tanners.
Wearing make-up and self tan application will only clog pores and increase the risk of infection and irritation. If you absolutely have to, apply an antiseptic cream prior to as minimal make-up as possible.

Avoid sun exposure and any form of sunbed treatment.
Dead cells are removed from the skins surface through epilation causing skin to become extremely delicate. Sun exposure and tanning will generate more pain and cause numerous skin problems.

Do not touch the area and ensure skin is kept clean.
Skin touching can easily cause irritation and put you at risk of bacterial infection if not kept clean. Try to avoid touching waxed areas as much as possible while keeping hands and skin clean.

Avoid tight fitting clothing.
Loose fitting clothes should be worn and synthetic materials avoided as much as possible. Tightly fitted clothes will not only irritate particularly sensitive skin but encourage ingrown hairs from the pressure.
