The Speckled Eyeliner Technique
The beautifully unique speckled eyeliner technique
Ever since the launch of Illamasqua's I'mperfection Spring 2013 collection I have been obsessed with the beautifully unique monochrome speckled eyeliner technique. This breathtaking yet delicate look oozes femininity and can be created by following my 5 simple steps.
You will need:
Eyeshadow primer
A matte ivory eyeshadow
Black liquid eyeliner
White liquid eyeliner
Black mascara
Step 1: Apply a light textured cream primer to the eyelids using your fingers and allow to absorb.
This will prep and prime the eye area providing the perfect base, while preventing your shadow from creasing and fading.
Step 2: Take your matte ivory eyeshadow and sweep a thin layer over the entire eyelid.
I personally also like to apply a small amount to the inner corner of each eye to brighten the eye area. This really brings such a subtle shade to life and compliments the speckled technique perfectly.
Step 3: Use your black liquid eyeliner to create a fluid line above your upper lash line.
A great tip is to always start half way across the eyelid, working outwards before joining the line at the inner corners of each eye.
The trick is to ensure that a slightly thicker line is created. This will provide plenty of space for the speckled technique and prevent your white eyeliner from overpowering the original black line.
Step 4: Create a speckled effect by dotting white liquid eyeliner over the black line.
Slowly building up the application before gradually fading out at the outer edge. This particular technique is all about individuality so there is no need for your speckles to be immaculately perfect. I would recommend experimenting to find a style that works best for you.
Step 5: To complete the look, create added definition by applying 2 coats of black mascara.
Alternatively, you may want to opt for a set of false eyelashes. These will not only provide extra length and definition but achieve an eye catching glamorous effect.
I would recommend creating a neutral base for the remainder of your make-up and applying a transparent lip-gloss or very light pink to the lip area. This beautiful look is all about the eyes and I personally find that bold lip colours and heavily applied make-up draw attention away from the intended focal point.
The speckled eyeliner technique is such a versatile look that can be customized to suit all tastes and styles. I would advise allowing your creative juices to flow by experimenting with a variety of vibrant colours and shades however, be warned, this will easily become your new obsession!
