Waxing: Essential Aftercare Advice

Wax depilation will cause skin to appear visibly red with the occasional blood spot in areas such as the bikini line and under arm where hair growth is strong.

An after-wax cleanser should always be applied immediately after treatment to ensure that all excess traces of sticky remains are removed prior to the application of an after-wax soothing lotion to keep skin cool and moisturized.
It is also important to follow specific aftercare advice to minimise the risk of irritation and bacterial infection, as well as prevent the unwanted occurrence of unsightly ingrown hairs and scarring.

It is essential that you adhere to the following homecare advice for a period of 24 hours after wax depilation:

  • Do not wear tight fitted clothing.
  •  All heated treatments such as sunbathing, sunbeds, hot baths and showers should be avoided.
  • Do not bathe in the sea or swimming pool.
  • The application of deodorant and anti-perspirants should be avoided.
  • Perfumed products should not be applied to the treated area.
  • No make-up or self tanning preparations are to be performed.
  • Never pick the treated area and ensure that touching is minimised as much as possible.
It is normal to experience dry skin after a waxing depilation treatment. Dead skin cells can be removed by minimal friction after the initial 24 hour aftercare period prior to the application of cream to the treated area.
I would also recommend moisturizing daily to prevent the occurrence of dry patches and, exfoliating every 3-5 days (starting 2-3 days after treatment) to keep skin smooth and prevent ingrowing hairs. A great tip is to use sea salt for exfoliation purposes. This not only has a drawing and cleansing effect but will successfully prevent the build-up of dead skin cells on the surface of the skin.

*Remember to always seek medical advice should any inflammation, swelling, redness, raised bumps or chemical reaction in the skin become visible.
