Essential Tips For Applying Make-up To Mature Skin

Ageing is an unwanted occurrence that happens to us all. From fine lines and wrinkles to a loss of colour in our skin and hair, this common problem is accompanied by an array of nuisances.

Although skin may become noticeably drier and pigmentation gradually more uneven, there is no reason why women of a more mature nature still can't wear make-up or maintain good grooming.
Today I share my essential tips for applying cosmetics to mature skins:

  • It is essential to ensure that mature skin is thoroughly moisturized. You should always allow at least 10 minutes for any moisturising product to settle and reapply if necessary.
  • Investing in a primer specifically designed for skin of a more mature nature will not only tighten and firm but brighten a dull complexion. This particular product should be applied after moisturising and prior to foundation.
  • One of the aims of mature make-up is to create a light deflecting, flawless canvas to minimize the emphasis of lined areas. This can be achieved by simply opting for a light reflecting foundation.
  • Foundation application should be of lightweight hydrating products only. The consistency of these particular products is not only easy to apply, but the simplicity of application will reduce skin handling and stretching, minimising the risk of further lines and wrinkles.
  • It is vital for women of a more mature skin type to use foundation and powder sparingly. Product overload will not only settle into lines but have a drying effect on the skin causing it to look visibly dull.
  • Opt for cream based blushers in soft shades of peach or coral. Not only will these products lighten the skin, they will also provide definition to the face.
  • Shimmering eye shadows and blushers should be avoided at all costs. The application of products containing a shimmer on mature skin will only force it to look crepey and accentuate any imperfections.
  • As the application of eyeliner to mature skins can appear harsh, it is important to blend eye cosmetics as much as possible.
  • Although bright shades of lipstick can be used with certain hair colouring (white) softer shades are more flattering.
  • As mature skin often contains fine vertical lines around the lip area, bleeding lipstick can be a common unwanted occurrence. To prevent this, simply apply foundation and powder prior to outlining with a lip pencil.
