Beauty Intelligence: Why Waxing Can Result In A Patchy Tan

Have you ever used a self tanning preparation only to find that a waxing depilation treatment has resulted in an unattractive patchy effect?

This is because tanning products contain the chemical dihydroxy-acetone which reacts with the keratin in the skin.
As the upper layers of the epidermis contains the majority of the skin's keratin, loose epidermal cells are removed with the wax. As a result, the reaction not only forces a change in colour but the removal of these particular cells cause some of the effects of a 'tan' to be lost with them.
