Know Your Nail Systems: The Facts About Temporary Nail Extensions

With nails fast becoming the ultimate statement accessory women are opting for professional artificial nail treatments to ensure that their talons are kept immaculately preened and polished to perfection at all times. However, with such an array of artificial extensions to choose from, deciding which nail system will best suit your individual needs can be overwhelming for even the most devoted beauty addicts.

Today we take a look at the advantages and disadvantages of temporary pre-formed nail extensions.

Pre-formed nails method: Temporary pre-formed nails are made from plastic and are available in a variety of shapes, colours and sizes. The application process is relatively simple in comparison to other artificial nail systems and involves the option of nail glue or, specialised sticky tabs.
This particular form of nail extension is quick, convenient and the perfect alternative for clients who find nail extensions unpractical for every day wear.

Advantages:

  • Temporary pre-formed nails are the perfect option for special occasions and one-off   events or, for clients who don't want the expense and commitment of more temporary methods of nail extensions.
  • This particular nail system is relatively inexpensive.
  •  Pre-formed nails can successfully disguise a broken nail by the application of nail enamel.
  • Temporary nail extensions are not only quick and convenient but do not weaken the natural nails.
  • Pre-formed nails can be stored and re-used providing all excess traces of glue are removed from the contact surface.

Disadvantages:

  • Pre-formed nail extensions are the least natural looking in comparison to other artificial nail systems.
  • As this particular form of nail extension is made from plastic, nail enamel must be worn to minimise the extremely artificial appearance.
  • Even if applied well and adequate care is taken to maintain the nails, pre-formed extensions only have temporary effects of a maximum of 7-10 days.
  • Temporary pre-formed nail extensions require great care during manual jobs and near sources of heat as they have minimal strength.
  • Pre-formed nails are not bonded as closely to the natural nail in comparison to other artificial nail systems. As a result, the natural nail plate may weaken and become spongey if water and other substances become lodged behind the false nail.
  • After a period of 2 weeks natural nail growth will create a noticeable gap between the artificial nail and cuticle.
  • The glue used during the application process of temporary extensions can easily dry out the natural nail if applied excessively or, on a regular basis.
A full set of temporary pre-formed nail extensions will take approximately 30 minutes.
