Lip Shapes - How To Get The Perfect Lips
When choosing a suitable lipstick you should take into consideration that strong, vibrant colours will draw attention to the mouth and should therefore be avoided when emphasis is trying to be taken away from the mouth or jaw area.
Strong statement colours always look best with subtle eye make-up and a pencil should be used as an outline to prevent the 'bleeding' effect often associated with the result of badly applied make-up.
The following tips will see you reep the benefits from corrective lip make-up.
Thin Lips - Pale, pearlised lipstick or gloss will give lips a fuller appearance. Thickness can also be increased by using lipliner to draw a line slightly outside the natural lip shape.
Full or Thick Lips - Bronze, purplish pinks and blue-toned reds are all useful in reducing fuller lips. A new lip line can be created inside the natural shape by blotting out the natural line with foundation and powder. Dark colours can also be used to give the effect of the lips receding.
Thin or Straight Upper Lip - If you suffer from a lack of upper lip the trick is to create a new bow. This can be achieved by penciling just above the natural line, adding fullness and giving the illusion of a thicker lip.
Thin Lower Lip - Thin lower lips require corrective make-up to balance the mouth. This can be produced by creating a new lower lip slightly below the natural shape.
Asymmetric Lip - Asymmetric lips are unbalanced and therefore require balance to achieve a fuller, thicker look. This can be done by using lipliner to create a line where needed.
Droopy Mouth - Droopy mouths can be unattractive but easily rectified with the use of correctly applied make-up. Lipliner should be used to build up the corners of the lower lip. Once the lips have been extended slightly upwards at each corner to meet the upper lip line, the illusion of a thicker, more fuller lip will be achieved.
Whatever your lip shape I would advise blocking out the problem area as much as possible with the use of foundation and powder before the application of lipstick. Lipliner can then be used to correct shape and prevent 'bleeding'. A good base will also allow your lip cosmetics to last longer.
Highlighter may then be used to accentuate the lips. Apply this to your cupids bow to give the illusion of a more prominent mouth.
A great tip is to use tissue to blot after your first application of lipstick, this will help fix the colour. Applying a gloss over the lipstick will also highlight the mouth and is something I recommend to clients wanting a fuller, thicker effect.
