Nail Intelligence: Home Care Advice

Nail Intelligence: Home care advice

Ill health, age, medication, anemia, alcohol and crash dieting and malnutrition are just a selection of things that can affect the growth of our nails.
To maintain strong, healthy nails and ensure that they are kept in optimum condition you must take responsibility for your own nail care in between regular salon visits.
Follow my quick and simple tips to keep your nails looking and feeling strong and healthy...

A well balanced diet rich in vitamins A, E and B complex as well as minerals such as calcium, zince, iodine and magnesium should be followed.

To avoid damaging nails do not use them as tools.

Always ensure that hands are protected from harsh detergents and household chemicals.

When applying varnish a base coat must be used at all times to protect the nail.

Avoid the use of metal nail files. They will only cause the nail to flake and splinter.

Apply hand cream after immersing hands in water and last thing at night. This will supplement the natural moisture of the skin.

When your nails are weak, use a nail hardener treatment to improve strength and condition.

To prevent the loss of too much moisture always opt for using a oily enamel remover.

Avoid nail biting and picking of the cuticles. This can damage the nail and put you at higher risk of infection.

To prevent hands from drying and chapping always use gloves during harsh and cold weather conditions.

Avoiding using hand creams containing AHAs on painted nails. This will only discolour your polish.
