When Should Primer Be Applied

When should primer be applied

The most important product in any make-up bag has to be a primer. In the words of make-up artist Napoleon Perdis, no prime is a crime and, that is the exact saying I swear by when applying foundation. However, the big debate is when exactly should primer be applied, on top of freshly cleansed skin or over moisturiser?

Primer is an all round miracle product in my eyes. It is a protective layer that seals in moisture and provides a smooth base to ensure your foundation lasts longer. This particular product also reduces the appearance of wrinkles, imperfections and open pores while minimizing shine to create the illusion of flawless, radiant skin.

If like me your make-up routine is more about colour-correcting, treating and highlighting the skin, then you may want to consider opting for a pore minimiser. This is the equivalent to a primer and will provide you with an immaculate canvas for the base of your cosmetics. I mainly apply pore minimising product to areas where pores need to be smoothed, particularly the T-zone, and match the remainder to my skin.

However, the question is when should these amazing products be applied?
Oily skins can often find that primer without moisturiser is more than enough however, with the exception of oilier skins, priming products and pore minimisers should be applied after moisturising and before foundation to successfully create the illusion of perfectly flawless, radiant looking skin.
