How To Create The Illusion Of Killer Chiseled Cheekbones

How to create the illusion of chiseled cheekbones

To create the illusion of killer chiseled cheekbones while sculpting and defining less prominent rounder cheeks, you will require a highlighter, powder and, bronzer two shades darker than your natural skin tone.

Blush
Opt for a soft coloured blush which suits your natural skin tone. I personally use a cream based product under a powder formula simply to set the blusher and ensure that the application stays in place all day.

Highlighter
Also referred to as light diffusing cosmetics, these contouring products are available in liquid and powder form. Personally, I find that a light-coloured shimmer blush does a fab job and can be blended into your blusher perfectly however, I would recommend experimenting to find what works best for you.

Bronzer
Opt for a powder or cream bronzer that is slightly darker than your skin tone. You will usually find the perfect shade falls 1-2 shades darker but it is vital that your chosen colour coordinates with your natural tone. Alternatively, you can use a slightly darker foundation for this particular product application but I personally find that bronzer does provide a great finish.

Application
Contouring can be tricky and, done incorrectly, can ruin your entire look leaving you with a serious make-up disaster. Following my simple steps will prevent any unwanted make-up mishaps and leave you with beautifully chiseled cheekbones.

Step one
Blend your bronzer or, foundation, into the hollows of the cheekbones in an upward diagonal motion.
This can easily be achieved by making a fish face (as shown above) and following the natural hollow of your cheeks.  It is also vital that you ensure your chosen product is thoroughly blended as the aim is to achieve a shadow rather than an unsightly line.

Step two
Apply highlighther along the most prominent lines of your cheekbones, blending thoroughly.
The highlighter will make the cheekbones appear more prominent by simply catching and reflecting light.

Step three
Smile, and in an upward sweeping motion, apply blusher to the apples of the cheeks towards your temples.
Small strokes should be used to keep the blush focused higher on the cheekbones and away from the eye area.

The contrasting tones define and shape cheekbones to create an optical illusion that makes them appear more chiseled. As a result, this draws the eye upward to focus on the most prominent portion of the cheekbones.
