Nailing It: Calluses

Problem: Calluses
Calluses are thick friction induced areas of hard skin. Although they do not push down into the dermis and are less painful in comparison to corns, this particular condition accumulates as a result of added pressure to the pads of the toes, heels and occasionally, palms of the hands and can fast become an irritating, unwanted problem.

Treatment: Removing the source of pressure will more than often banish calluses quickly and efficiently. Alternatively, a variety of cleansing scrubs and exfoliating creams are available. These particular products work by gently softening the skin to successfully loosen and remove any troublesome hardened areas.

Avoid: Callus files and pumice stones.
Callus files and pumice stones work by producing friction to remove hardened patches of skin. As a result, the skin is forced to thicken, making the condition worse. Always avoid this particular form of treatment and opt for a simple scrub or exfoliating product instead.
