Common Problems Caused By Artificial Nail Extensions

From discoloration to premature loss, artificial nail extensions are more than often accompanied by an array of unwanted problems, but what exactly causes these beauty mishaps?
Today we take a look at the frequent dilemmas created by the application of nail extensions.

Premature Loss
The premature loss of a nail extension can arise through insufficient preparation of the natural nail or, if excess traces of oil or water have been left on the nail plate prior to application.
Clients may also find themselves with a premature loss of nail if the applied extension was too long or, the products required to create the artificial nail were not compatible. In effect, this will only cause the application of the extensions to be ineffective.

Vertical Split
A vertical split present in the nail tip may occur through poor application.
If your technician has used inferior tips, over filed or, used an incompatible shaped tip in comparison to your natural nail, extensions can easily break and split.
This particular problem may also occur if an insufficient product has been applied over the tip or, the client has been biting the extension. As nails can not be repaired, the tip should be removed and replaced.

Splitting and Separation
Nail extensions can split and separate from the side walls if insufficient product has been used or, too much product has been applied and allowed to seep onto the surrounding skin.
Bad application will also force extensions to split if your technician has failed to prepare your nails in the correct manner, either through minimal dehydration or, failing to adequately buff to remove surface shine.

Yellow Discoloration
Discoloration of the natural nail or extension is often associated with the acrylic system and clients who regularly use sun beds. However, if nails have a yellow appearance on application, this may indicate that the product applied has been contaminated.
