Fitness fact: weight lifting leaves women with a bad ass body!

Although females who flaunt a muscular figure may be branded 'big and bulky' by a society who religiously reiterates that women 'should' strive to resemble a skeletal bag of bones, building muscle mass won't leave women with a 'beefy' body.

In fact, swapping the stationary bike for weighted workouts can not only tone troublesome tubbiness - women will only appear 'big and bulky' if they're abusing anabolic steroids or they've been blessed with muscle building genes - but force the body to burn more energy at rest - muscle's high metabolic activity increases our resting metabolic rate (the energy/calories we expend at rest) and as a result, our overall caloric burn.

Instead of resorting to the religious cardio sessions that leave you struggling to tone a skinny silhouette (a common concern that stems from steady state cardio), don't be afraid to reap the results of resistance training on a regular basis. You may find that you fight the flab by building the muscle that creates a beautiful body, but you won't resemble a female version of a bodybuilding beefcake unless you're stupid enough to turn to steroids!
