Healthy Halloween snacks: spooky coconut banana sticks

Sensible swap...

Swap the creepy calorie fuelled cakes and sugary sweet treats of the spooky season for sweet 'n' scary banana sticks with a ghostly twist.

Ingredients:

  • bananas
  • natural yogurt
  • desiccated coconut
  • dark chocolate chips and/or raisins 
  • wooden skewers
What to do:

  • slice one end of each peeled banana
  • insert a wooden skewer into the sliced end of the banana - reducing the length of long skewers will prevent piercing the bananas to the point of splitting - and dip into the natural yogurt
  • sprinkle with desiccated coconut before pressing the dark chocolate chips (or raisins) into the top of the banana to create a set of spooky eyes and/or mouth
  • carefully place the yogurt/coconut coated bananas onto a baking sheet lined with greaseproof paper (or a clean plate) and pop into the freezer for 30 minutes
  • enjoy your (healthier) spook-tacular sweet treat!  
Top tip - don't beat yourself up if the temptation of tasty treats leaves you struggling to sustain the self discipline not to succumb to the sweet stuff during the spooky season. Indulging in a little of what you fancy on special occasions won't hinder your healthier habits - a negative attitude and failing to master the meaning of moderation on a daily basis, will.
