Nailing It: How To File and Shape Flat Nails

From narrow and small, to curved and clawed, nails may come in an array of shapes and sizes, but not everyone is blessed with a perfectly formed nail plate.

Its no secret that flat nails lack the curve and definition often associated with beautifully shaped talons, but did you know that their extreme flatness forces the nail to have a tendency of bending in a backward motion?
Although a nail plate prone to bending may not appear to pose a serious problem, this particular action will in fact create unsightly cracks at a line of weakness located either side of the nail.

A great tip to minimize the damage created by flat nails, is to simply opt for a relatively short oval or almond shape during filing. Not only will this particular combination eliminate flatness induced bulk, but the shorter length will ensure that the risk of unwanted breakage is reduced dramatically. Filing or repairing any visible cracks as soon as they occur will also ensure that any further damage to the nail plate is prevented.
