Are You Damaging Your Nails? The Effects Of Poor Cuticle Work

We're all guilty of a rushed DIY manicure between salon visits, but did you know that failing to take adequate care when removing excess cuticle can have damaging effects on nail growth?

Although it is essential to ensure that cuticles are kept soft and pliable to prevent the occurrence of splitting, and unwanted growth onto the nail's surface, the cuticles primary job is to protect the matrix (the only 'living' part of our nails) by forming a barrier between the nail and surrounding skin.
It should therefore come as no surprise when I tell you that too much pressure in this area can disturb the matrix cells which are situated behind the base of the nail. The result? Once the matrix cells are damaged, nails are forced to grow malformed.
