How To Get Your Feet Looking And Smelling Beautiful For Summer
With our feet producing up to 500ml of sweat per day it is easy to see why unpleasant foot odours tend to be associated with sweaty feet.
Although sweat itself does not smell, the bacteria which is always present on the skin does and, as a sweaty environment is the perfect encouragement for the bacteria to multiply, a characteristic undesirable smell is produced.
With summer just around the corner no-one wants unattractive odour filled feet. Therefore, specialized care and attention should be taken to ensure that they are kept cool, dry and odour free by following these simple tips:
- Your feet should be washed at least once a day. To ensure that infection is prevented, extra care should be taken to dry the skin thoroughly, paying particular attention to in between the toes. This area is not only more susceptible to becoming warm and moist but vulnerable to fungi and bacterial infection.
- To help keep feet dry and ensure sweat is absorbed from the skin, dust the feet with foot powder after bathing and before putting on shoes. The added fungicide contained in these talc like powders help to prevent common diseases such as athlete's foot.
- Surgical spirit or cologne which has a cooling, astringent effect on the skin can be used to wipe excessively sweaty feet twice a day.
- To keep odours at bay and minimise the growth of fungi and bacteria, a foot spray can be used throughout the day to keep the feet cool and refreshed.
- To ensure that an attractive appearance is maintained at all times, hard skin can be treated with a pumice stone or callus file. A great tip is to perform this particular procedure following a bath or shower prior to massaging a medicated foot cream or, body lotion into the treated area to soften and moisturise.
- If you suffer from swollen, aching feet foot-bath salts and sea salt can be added to warm water as part of your regular maintenance routine. Soaking your feet in these particular salts will not only disperse body fluid but reduce any visible signs of swelling. Alternatively, aromatherapy oils can also be used to successfully revive tired feet at home.
- Give your feet the care and attention they deserve by treating yourself to professional pedicures throughout the year. Neglecting the feet can not only result in serious consequences but produce an array of unwanted bacterial infections.
