Making healthy food fun with a spruced up fruit salad

Making healthy food fun for fussy eaters...

Convince cautious children to try troublesome tastes and textures by creating a captivating combination of crunch and colour.

Ingredients - to make one fruit and yogurt salad:

  • 1-2 Nairns chocolate chip oat biscuits - home baked biscuits can be used as a healthier alternative
  • 2-3tbsp natural yogurt
  • a selection of mixed berries - I chose blueberries and strawberries for their striking colour
  • a small handful of granola and flaked almonds.
Instructions:
  • Break the biscuits into smaller segments before scattering them across the bottom of a small glass - this will be the base.
  • Cover the broken biscuits with the natural yogurt, blueberries (or your youngster's favourite fruit/s) and granola.
  • Top with strawberries before sprinkling with flaked almonds and serving as a tasty sweet treat.
Top tip: although Nairns oat based biscuits may not necessarily be the most nutritious of nibbles for minors to munch (not all of their ingredients are innocent!), their low calorie/sugar content (45kcal/1.9g sugar per serving), free from ingredients (think no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives, wheat and hydrogenated fat etc) and wholegrain properties make them one of the 'better' shop brought biscuits in terms of their nutritional content.
