Weight loss - what to expect
Before you beat yourself up for 'failing' to fight the flab, remember that the reality of eliminating excess weight resembles an erratic experience that will:
- Test your physical and psychological strength by forcing you to step outside of your comfort zone.
- Leave you looking (and feeling!) like a sweaty oxygen starved mess as you struggle to sustain the stamina to tackle tougher training sessions - particularly if you're new to physical activity.
- See you worrying about your 'wobbly bits' when you workout (we all have them).
- Force you to fixate on your 'failures' and convince yourself that you're incapable of change (you are).
- Push you to become psychologically preoccupied with how others perceive your physique when participating in physical activity (we all start somewhere).
- See you slip up and hinder your healthier habits by tucking into too many tasty treats and/or takeaways.
- Leave you ready to give up on your goals because your weekly weigh ins indicate that your waistline is getting wider (its not).
- See you struggle to maintain the motivation to move more when your performance is 'poor' during periods of physical activity (it happens...a lot).
- Make you constantly question your commitment to change as you struggle to cook from scratch, skip training sessions and fail to see the slender silhouette that you strive for (be patient, your physique is work in progress).
- Leave you repulsed by your reflection after a bothersome binge gets the better of you...
Although life will always have a habit of getting in the way of your goals, beating yourself up for having a 'bad' day will not only trigger toxic thoughts of negativity, but tempt you to turn back to the unhealthy habits that you have worked hard to banish. Instead of convincing yourself that you 'can't' move more, you 'can't' consume less crap and you 'can't' sustain self control, snap back to reality and remember that failure is only final when you lose the will to try.
