Weight loss:fixating on figures can leave us failing to fight the flab...

Food for thought...

Fixating on figures can leave us failing to fight the flab.

Whether it's weekly weigh ins, chronic calorie counting or the exaggerated energy burn that's estimated on exercise equipment, fixating on figures whilst fighting the flab can not only drive us to develop a detrimental eating disorder - our overwhelming obsession with numbers triggers a toxic cycle of self-starvation and excessive exercise as we become engrossed in cutting 'more' calories and eliminating 'more' energy - but it can also shatter our self-esteem when the scales fail to show sufficient weight loss - a common culprit that's responsible for tempting us to turn to tasty treats (and give up on our goals) in an attempt to comfort our crippled confidence with an overconsumption of calories.

Instead of struggling to sustain a lacklustre lifestyle of sums and scales (the sums and scales that will spiral out of control), forget fixating on figures in favour of learning to listen to your body by focusing on how you feel. If you can feel that your clothes fit better, your stomach is satisfied but not stretched (from a feast of food) and your training sessions are tough on both a physical and a psychological scale, you don't need numbers to tell you that you're making the positive progress that leads to a long-term lifestyle change...
