Skincare Tip: Dry Skin

The inadequate sebum (the skin's natural lubricant) production associated with dry skin can not only leave this particular skin type with a matt, uneven texture, but force the surface cells to curl and flake as a result of the natural moisture loss induced by the absence of the greasy coating sebum provides.

A great tip in order to prevent further deterioration of dry skin, is to adjust your skincare regime to ensure that the application of all harsh products is avoided.
Lotions containing alcohol, alkalis, detergents and abrasives prove to be particularly damaging for skin of a drier nature, due to their stripping properties depriving the skin of its natural surface lubricant. As dry skin fails to produce an adequate amount of sebum to replace this unnecessary loss of moisture quickly enough, the skin's surface is forced to become dry, parched and irritated and as a result, this delicate skin type which is already prone to dryness, deteriorates rapidly.
