Nailing It: Nail Enamel and Ridges

Never apply nail enamel to nails with severe ridging. The uneven surface will not only make it extremely difficult to achieve a flawless finish, but longitudinal ridges in particular (visible ridges down the length of the nails) may split, allowing dirt and enamel to enter.
Instead, opt for buffing with a paste. This will not only help in the removal of any superficial ridges on the nail plate, but provide a smooth base while creating an attractive shine.

It is also important to take into consideration that special base coats, also known as ridge fillers, can be applied to those who suffer with minimal ridging. These particular products are great for creating an even base and successfully filling any visible grooves and ridges before enamel application.
