Making healthy food fun with a Weetabix Rudolf

A Weetabix Rudolf made from sliced fruit.
Sensible swap...

Swap: a sugary bowl of breakfast cereal such as coco pops.

For: a wholegrain weetabix Rudolf/s.

Why: although sugary cereals may tickle our tots' taste buds, they also resemble one of the core culprits responsible for tightening trousers, triggering tooth decay and subjecting blood sugar to speedy spikes and slumps - the slumps that often leave our little'uns irritable, hungry and struggling to sustain stamina long before their mid morning munchies.

The best bit: by encouraging children to consume the complex carbohydrates found in food sources such as whole grain cereal - the type that provides a slow and sustained release of energy and is accompanied by an abundance of beneficial nutrients including iron, fibre and vital B vitamins - we'll not only drive them to develop a taste for nutrient dense dishes as opposed to the processed products that leave them predisposed to piling on the pounds, but reduce their risk of developing an array of detrimental diseases (think heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain cancers) by instilling healthier dietary habits from an early age.

Top tip: banish those breakfast battles with a fun face...
Creating a captivating character/s from a selection of fruit sources such as sliced strawberries and bananas, is an effective way to instantly ignite an interest in an otherwise bland but healthy breakfast, whilst increasing your youngster's intake of vital vitamins and mandatory minerals - particularly when weetabix is paired with milk.
