Weight loss & well-being: is self-criticism sabotaging your silhouette?

Food for thought: we all possess the psychological power to strengthen or suppress the self-criticism that can sabotage our weight loss success...

Although we are all susceptible to the self-criticism that stems from struggling to shape a slender silhouette, constant negative cognition can cripple more than just our confidence.

In fact, dedicating even an ounce of energy to entertaining the exaggerated emotions that encourage subjective self-evaluation can not only trigger a toxic cycle of crash dieting and crippled confidence - our desperation to destroy our 'repulsive' reflection drives us towards the detrimental diets and 'detoxes' that are destined for a bigger body and a beaten brain - but overpower our positivity to the point where we automatically assume the worst the second that we succumb to the simplest of slip ups - constantly criticising our every effort will eventually mould a mindset that naturally magnifies negativity, and misinterprets minor mistakes as resembling a reason to resort back to its unhealthy habits.

Instead of fixating on the belittling behaviour that stems from struggling to build a 'better' you, focus on finding the psychological strength to suppress the self-criticism that clouds your common sense, by changing your perception of the problems and plateaus that leave you susceptible to shattering your self-esteem. Although something as simple as struggling to tame the temptation not to tuck into too many tasty treats may trigger the toxic thoughts that lead to a lapse, it's how you choose to handle your weight loss weaknesses that will determine whether your efforts to eliminate excess weight are effective, or erased.

For example, thinking 'I've slipped up so I may as well just give up and continue to give into temptation' resembles a toxic thought that will likely lead to a weight loss relapse, or a collapse, as you choose to entertain the exaggerated emotions that strengthen self-criticism. However, acquiring a more positive attitude such as 'damn, it's been a difficult day but there's still time to learn from my mistake or move more in order to compensate for my over consumption of calories,' will leave you much more likely to maintain the motivation to sustain your healthier habits, whilst suppressing the self-criticism that can sabotage your sanity, silhouette and weight loss success...

Top tip: toxic thoughts are like traps, they can capture, consume and control us if we fail to put a stop to their poison that overpowers our positivity, or they can create a stronger self that fights to suppress the negativity that hinders our health and happiness - the choice that we choose will either shape (positivity) or sabotage (negativity) our self-worth, and weight loss success.
