Why we turn to worrying weight loss methods
Wannabe weight loss coaches, fake fitness professionals and an abundance of pills, plans and products that promise to prevent us from piling on the pounds with their fat fighting, calorie cutting and metabolism boosting benefits are just a selection of the worrying weight loss wonders that continue to convince the beaten brains of discouraged dieters that dangerous diets and detoxes are the only answer to ousting an accumulation of additional weight, but are these cleverly constructed claims and campaigns really the core culprits responsible for clouding our common sense when it comes to shaping a slender silhouette? or is our desperation to banish a bigger body to blame?
Although our tighter trousers may trigger the temptation to turn to a speedy weight loss solution - particularly if we're prone to fixating on the latest 'fat fighting' fad - the thought of struggling to sustain the healthier habits that lead to a long-term lifestyle change is often far more overwhelming than religiously failing to fight the flab with the strategic slimming shakes and supplements that temporarily shape a bag of bones.
In fact, with many convinced that they 'can't' commit to creating change - the change that stems from honesty and healthier habits - resorting to the rapid results that they can always rely on the warped world of weight loss to provide is far more favourable than finding the strength to face reality - the reality that requires them to dig deep in order to determine the underlying psychological problem/s responsible for their wider waistline.
Although our desperation to drop a dress size may not be solely to blame for our failure to fight the flab in a way which is safe, sensible, sustainable and successful, molding a mindset that refuses to accept the reasons why (and how) our actions are hindering our health not only allows commission fuelled 'weight loss coaches' (and companies) to take advantage of a weakness that we're yet to accept and address, but leaves us susceptible to succumbing to the speedy weight loss solutions that seem far more simple than finding the psychological strength to pin point our problem with food, and our fuller figure.
Summary: we will continue to crave, be convinced by and resort to the weight loss option that fails to overwhelm us - regardless of how unhealthy, restrictive and/or ridiculous it may be - until we're ready to work on our weaknesses by stepping outside of our comfort zone to face our fears, create change and/or accept that the actions that are hindering our health need addressing.
Although deep down we all acknowledge that dangerous diets and detoxes are detrimental, they're also a simple solution in comparison to the complex psychological problem that we have learned to push aside, and in that, we find comfort and control - the comfort and control that we sacrifice the second that we swap a speedy solution for stepping outside of our comfort zone.
