Beauty Tip: Why You Should Never Use Hair Dye On Facial Hair
Despite the temptation, it is vital to avoid the application of hairdressing products in order to tint the eyebrows and eyelashes. Why? Simple...
Hydrogen peroxide is the oxidizing agent responsible for developing the dye in tinting products. Due to its oxidizing properties, once this particular chemical is combined with tint, oxygen is released and an oxidation reaction is created, chemically activating the tint in order for the development of colour to begin.
Although it may appear convenient to apply any remaining hair dye to your brows and lashes, a much stronger hydrogen peroxide is used for developing hairdressing tinting products in comparison to the relatively weak strength required for eyelash tinting. As the eye area is susceptible to extreme sensitivity, anything stronger than 3% could not only cause severe irritation, but burn skin upon contact.
It is also important to take into consideration that hair dyes contain 'para' dyes. These are strong chemicals which are unsuitable for use on the delicate eye area and should be applied to the hair on your head only.
A great tip is to always remember that our body chemistry can change overnight and unwanted allergies can develop just as quickly. Never underestimate the importance of a patch (skin) test 24-48 hours prior to treatment regardless of what area you are dyeing, or how many tinting treatments you have previously had. Failing to perform something so simple can lead to an array of extreme and unpleasant adverse skin reactions.
